Safety

Backing up the Ford Mondeo's rigid safety cell is its state of the art airbag system, which features a total of 7 airbags:

• Driver and front passenger airbags (2)
• Driver and front passenger side airbags (2)
• Front and rear side curtain airbags (2)
• Driver's knee airbag (1)

This highly advanced airbag system helps provide optimal protection for driver and occupants. It's what you'd expect from Ford of Europe's most technically advanced car ever.

Standard on all Mondeo models, Dynamic Stability Control* helps to maintain vehicle stability in potentially dangerous situations through programmed intervention in the braking system and powertrain, or a combination of both. Sensors track the vehicle's movements and help correct the driving line through a combination of brake application to the appropriate wheel and a reduction in engine torque. Which all adds to greater peace of mind.

Traction control comes standard on Mondeo. It enables the driver to have greater control of the vehicle when accelerating out of a corner, taking off on slippery roads or when negotiating a hill. It functions by limiting wheel spin during heavy acceleration. So you know you're in safe hands with Mondeo.

ABS incorporating Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) is a standard safety feature on every Mondeo to help you avoid trouble and ensure a safer drive. ABS helps prevent the wheels from locking under heavy braking pressure, thereby increasing the amount of steering control in an emergency braking situation.

Automatic headlights leave you free to concentrate on driving and not fiddling. When ambient light reaches a certain level, your headlights will come on automatically. Just another example of Ford Mondeo's intelligent thinking. Standard on Mondeo Zetec, TDCi and XR5 Turbo.

Power and Performance

The 2.5 litre Duratec 5 cylinder 20 valve turbocharged engine is powerful yet smooth-revving, capable of delivering 162kW of power and 320Nm of torque. Standard on the Mondeo XR5 Turbo, this engine delivers a great performance feel to complement the vehicle's sports styling and driving dynamics. The powertrain is matched to Mondeo XR5 Turbo's highly-refined 6-speed manual transmission.

The advanced 2.3 litre Duratec 4 cylinder 16 valve petrol with electronic multipoint fuel injection delivers 118kW of power and 208Nm of torque. This powerplant is featured on Mondeo LX and Zetec models and is matched to a silky 6-speed automatic transmission that features Sequential Sports Shift to allow you to individualise your driving experience.

Ford Mondeo TDCi features an advanced 2.0 litre Duratorq 4 cylinder 16 valve turbo diesel engine with common-rail multipoint fuel injection technology to give you a perfect blend of power and economy. Not only is the TDCi diesel engine more fuel efficient compared to traditional petrol engines but it's also cleaner for the environment. And with 320Nm of torque, the TDCi has ample power ‘on tap’ to easily manoeuvre urban streets or confidently overtake on highways.

The seamless 6 speed automatic transmission found in the Mondeo LX, Zetec and turbo diesel TDCi models offers the driver the choice of two distinct driving modes; a fully automatic 6 speed mode, or manual control over gear selection using the sequential gearbox; similar to driving a manual vehicle but without a clutch. So you can slip smoothly between gears as you take control, giving you the ultimate choice.

Complementing Mondeo XR5 Turbo's sporty performance is a highly refined and engaging 6 speed manual transmission. This transmission has been engineered for the extra torque found in the powerful XR5 Turbo engine to provide you with a superb balance between in-gear flexibility, fuel economy, performance and refinement.
