Safety

Here's how the Intelligent Safety System (ISS) operates in the event of an emergency. Crash severity sensors located around the vehicle tell the Advanced Restraints Module (ARM) which safety features to deploy, and when. Depending on the locality and severity of the accident, driver and front passenger airbags are activated and where required side airbags deploy from the front seats. The ARM will also determine if driver and front passenger pyrotechnic seatbelt buckle pretensioners are required to assist in pulling you snugly into position. The Intelligent Safety System incorporates:

• Beltminder system
• Advanced Restraints Module (ARM)
• Crash severity sensors
• Side front airbags

Focus Coupé-Cabriolet, XR5 Turbo, Ghia and Zetec models also include Dynamic Stability Control^, Traction Control and Emergency Brake Assist; all designed to help you avoid an accident. Side curtain airbags are also standard on Focus XR5 Turbo.

The Focus also includes many additional safety features to help keep you secure in the event of an accident. Features include energy absorbing crumple zones to reduce the force of the impact, anti-intrusion clutch and brake pedals that collapse away from the driver's legs to reduce the chance of leg injuries, and a high-strength passenger cell providing additional protection to the occupants from the force of an accident.

Power and Performance

It's impossible not to feel empowered when you slide into the driving position of the Focus XR5 Turbo. A touch of your right foot and the smooth revving 2.5L Duratec 20V 5-cylinder turbo engine is happy to oblige when you ask it the question. Turbocharged, it summons a blistering 320Nm of torque at 1600 to 4000rpm. Power output peaks with 166kW at 6000rpm. Focus XR5 Turbo offers driving enthusiasts a reason to love driving.

Producing 107kW of power and 185Nm of torque this DOHC 16 valve 4 cylinder petrol engine provides ample power and ensures great launch feel and zippy acceleration for effortlessly smooth performance. Standard on Focus CL, LX, Zetec, Ghia and Coupé-Cabriolet with either a 5-speed manual or an optional 4-speed automatic transmission with Sequential Sports Shift*.

From the cutting edge of engine technology comes the car for a smoother tomorrow. The diesel-powered Focus TDCi. Its advanced 2.0L Duratorq turbo diesel engine is considerably more fuel efficient compared to traditional petrol engines. And it’s cleaner for the environment. Add an advanced common rail multi-point fuel injection system and you’re guaranteed a silky, impressively quiet driving experience. And the performance? The Focus TDCi’s outstanding 320Nm of torque allows you to accelerate smoothly off the mark with power ‘on tap’ to easily manoeuvre city streets or confidently overtake on highways. Now that's smooth.

This smooth transmission* offers drivers the choice of two distinct driving modes; a traditional 4-speed fully automatic mode, or manual control over gear selection using a sequential gearbox - similar to driving a manual vehicle but without a clutch. Slip smoothly between gears as you take control over the transmission. It's the ultimate choice. Fully automatic 4-speed for busy congested city streets, or full manual control for when you want to let your hair down cruising the open road.

The Focus Coupé-Cabriolet also proudly wears the Pininfarina badge, from the famed Italian design house that has helped sculpture some of the world's most desirable vehicles, including Ferrari and Maserati, and is a name synonymous with beautiful design and attention to detail. You see this influence in the Focus Coupé-Cabriolet in the effortless switching from a stylish coupé to a smart cabriolet at the push of a button, and the overall elegance of the vehicle's lines, regardless of whether the hard top roof is up or down.

Focus Coupé-Cabriolet was developed in partnership with the design and engineering teams from Pininfarina, and wears the badge to signify its design and build links at this historic Italian facility.

Standard on Focus XR5 Turbo, a Bluetooth® handsfree phone kit and voice control system enables the operation of Bluetooth®-compatible mobile phones and the car's audio system via the driver pressing a button and issuing voice commands. The driver's commands are guided by the system issuing audio announcements or questions. This cool feature aids safety and convenience as there's no need for the driver to take their eyes off the road to access controls.

An electrically operated tilt /slide sunroof is available as an option for Focus XR5 Turbo. The sunroof features a screen glass with a 'bounce-back' sensor. So you can bring in the sunshine to make time on the road with your Focus XR5 Turbo even more enjoyable.
